Al Dhafra Camel Festival
The Al Dhafra Camel Festival is held every December in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi and has something for everyone; there are dedicated special shows for 'Asayel' (pedigree) and 'Majahim' (dark-skinned) camels, and the well-known and rare 'camel beauty contest'. It also has a traditional souk and during the festival there will be a camel auction and various contests for traditional handicrafts, poetry and date packaging. The Festival attracted a large number of camel-owners from the UAE and the Gulf region and turned Al Gharbia into the place with the highest concentration of camels at the time, with over 25000 camel present.
