Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is big. It’s full of dreamers and hard-labourers, starlets and gangsters, stray dogs and exotic birds, artists and servants, fisherfolk and millionaires, and lots and lots of people. The capital city of the Indian state of Maharashtra is the most populous city in India with an estimated city proper population of 12.4 million.






Dhobi Ghat is a well known open air laundromat in Mumbai. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linen from Mumbai's hotels and hospitals. For 18 to 20 hours each day, over 7,000 people flog, scrub, dye and bleach clothes on concrete wash pens, dry them on ropes, neatly press them and transport the garments to different parts of the city. 





The Gateway to India faces out to Mumbai Harbour where boats depart from the gateway’s wharves for Elephant Island.

'Chor Bazaar, located near Bhendi Bazaar in South Mumbaineer place in Kamathipura', is one of the largest flea markets in India. The area is one of the tourist attractions of Mumbai. The word chor means thief in Marathi and Hindi.
